Buying a gift for a writer sounds easy — until you realize they already own forty notebooks and have opinions about every one of them. Here's the secret: writers don't need another notebook. They need a notebook that means something.
The difference between a notebook and a journal they'll actually use
Writers save their best notebooks for "someday" — and that's exactly why a personalized journal works. When their name is on the cover ("Poems Inside My Head — Sarah's Collection"), it's no longer too precious to write in. It was made to be filled. Explore our personalized journals for poets, novelists, songwriters and journalers.
Our favorite gifts for word people
- "Poems Inside My Head" personalized poetry journal — our signature gift for poets, with 200 lined pages of vegan leather-bound possibility.
- Definition journals for writers — "Writer (n.): someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people… and who does it anyway."
- A writing-desk acrylic plaque — a permanent piece of encouragement for the days the words won't come.
- A personalized mug — because 90% of writing is drinking coffee while staring at the page.
Gift them a ritual, not just an object
The most beloved writer gifts create a habit: morning pages in a journal with their name on it, a poem a day, letters they'll never send. Add a note with your gift suggesting the ritual — "one page every morning, no rules" — and you've given them far more than paper.
For aspiring writers
Know someone who "always wanted to write"? A personalized journal is the gentlest push in the world. It says: I believe you have something worth writing down.
